For the third consecutive year, the Delaplaine Foundation, Inc. has supported the Reading Specialization program with a $10,000 contribution. The funds will be used for scholarships and technology. Reading Specialization director Dr. Ellen Koitz calls the continuing philanthropy “a tremendous resource for students in need of financial aid and for the youth we reach through our camps and clinics.”
Delaplaine Foundation is a private family foundation based in Frederick, Maryland. It is dedicated to the enrichment of communities and families within Maryland, nearby states and the District of Columbia by supporting programs to strengthen the arts and sciences, historical preservation, educational advancement, spiritual enlightenment and physical well-being.
Graduate students in the Reading Specialization program will serve as clinicians in two settings this summer:
- the Hood College Reading Clinic for elementary school students ages 6-12
- the Frederick Community College Reading Camp for middle school, high school and college-level students
Dr. Ellen Koitz, Reading Specialization program director, calls the programs “instructive for everyone involved. Our grad students get a hands-on opportunity to put their knowledge to work, and the students they teach benefit from the latest teaching strategies.”
The clinic is a six-week experience for elementary students. The camp consists of two three-week sessions, one beginning in late June and one beginning in mid-July.
